I got stopped by an old gate. When I took off my helmet to have a listen, MAN I couldn&#8217;t believe how creepy it all sounded.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been recording a lot in the mountains recently. Partially because I wanted to hear what&#8217;s out there and partially because it&#8217;s fun as hell driving those mountain trails (I always wanted a dirt bike when I was a kid!) So I bought a semi-capable over-priced enduro. Motorcycles are expensive in Taiwan!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-08-21-12.09.26.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-781 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-08-21-12.09.26.jpg\" alt=\"2014-08-21-12.09.26\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-08-21-12.09.26.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-08-21-12.09.26-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-08-21-12.09.26-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After a while though, you realize it all starts to sound the same&#8230;for ambience at least. One day I might take my 416 out there and pick up individual sounds, but I&#8217;m not really a nature recordist; I just like location ambience.<\/p>\n<p>One thing in Taiwan you can hear a lot now in the mountains are cicadas. It&#8217;s near impossible to get a recording without their presence. I&#8217;ve noticed they make their noises in &#8220;waves&#8221;: Slowly creeping up one-by-one until you have a full chorus of sound. Then slowly they&#8217;ll taper off to nothingness, finally allowing the crickets to make their noises.<\/p>\n<p>This particular day I couldn&#8217;t help but record their noise; it was damn cool and creepy sounding. This has led to many great adventures that I decided to share here. Hiking seemed a natural extension to the off-roading for me. Many hiking trails begin at the end of a motorcycle trail. So I would often follow them on foot, wondering where they would take me. I didn\u2019t want to forget these hiking trips, so I decided to write about them here. Hopefully they\u2019ll be interesting and helpful to you. Since my first peak, JiuBaoShan \u2013 \u4e45\u4fdd\u5c71 in April of 2018, I\u2019ve hiked to nearly 70 peaks in Taiwan and had a ton of adventures! Taiwan is such a great country to hike. I\u2019m really lucky to have chosen here to live. I was a brand ambassador for Six Moons Designs as part of their 2020 and 2021 International Ambassador Team. They make lightweight, high quality, affordable backpacking equipment. I\u2019m really excited to be a part of their team. As fate would have it, one day I found myself in the mountains on a rocky trail while looking for a place to record. My scooter couldn\u2019t handle the rough conditions so I continued on foot. This eventually led to me purchasing a dual sport motorcycle \u2013 two in fact. Slowly my field recordings became less and less until I was riding off-road exclusively. This has led to many great adventures that I decided to share here. Hiking seemed a natural extension to the off-roading for me. Many hiking trails begin at the end of a motorcycle trail. So I would often follow them on foot, wondering where they would take me. I didn\u2019t want to forget these hiking trips, so I decided to write about them here. Hopefully they\u2019ll be interesting and helpful to you. Since my first peak, JiuBaoShan \u2013 \u4e45\u4fdd\u5c71 in April of 2018, I\u2019ve hiked to nearly 70 peaks in Taiwan and had a ton of adventures! Taiwan is such a great country to hike. I\u2019m really lucky to have chosen here to live. I was a brand ambassador for Six Moons Designs as part of their 2020 and 2021 International Ambassador Team.
