The resorts were the last things on our minds, thank god. What we wanted to check out and record was a natural phenomenon known as the Fire Water Cave (\u6c34\u706b\u6d1e).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This little tourist area off the side of a road has a somewhat unique natural phenomenon. Gas from deep within the Earth has escaped into this little bit of hot spring water. It&#8217;s bubbling out of the water, and at some point in history has caught fire. So fire is literally flaming out of the water. It sounds a lot cooler than it looks in person. But it&#8217;s still rather interesting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/fire_water_web.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-405\" src=\"http:\/\/outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/fire_water_web-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/fire_water_web.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/fire_water_web-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Other translations I&#8217;ve seen are &#8220;Fire Water Homologous&#8221;, &#8220;Fire Water Union&#8221;, and &#8220;Fire Water Mix&#8221;. I guess they all capture the basic idea of fire and water living together without one wiping the other out. I personally prefer &#8220;Water Farts Flames&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I&#8217;ll admit I wasn&#8217;t expecting much in terms of sound. We went on an off day, but people were still there &#8211; not to mention the birds. I was hoping there would be more of a &#8220;fire&#8221; sound (think blowtorch) but in reality it sounded like someone boiling water in a bathroom due to its proximity to the rocks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Luckily I had the foresight to bring a boompole.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/p16.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-406\" src=\"http:\/\/outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/p16-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Recording at Guanziling Fire Water Cave\" width=\"614\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/p16.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/p16-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.outrecording.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/p16-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Have a listen to the recording. I used the SPS200 software to create stereo and mono files. There&#8217;s noise all around, so I found outputting a mono cardioid pattern eliminated some of it. So I would often follow them on foot, wondering where they would take me. I didn\u2019t want to forget these hiking trips, so I decided to write about them here. Hopefully they\u2019ll be interesting and helpful to you. Since my first peak, JiuBaoShan \u2013 \u4e45\u4fdd\u5c71 in April of 2018, I\u2019ve hiked to nearly 70 peaks in Taiwan and had a ton of adventures! Taiwan is such a great country to hike. I\u2019m really lucky to have chosen here to live. I was a brand ambassador for Six Moons Designs as part of their 2020 and 2021 International Ambassador Team. As fate would have it, one day I found myself in the mountains on a rocky trail while looking for a place to record. My scooter couldn\u2019t handle the rough conditions so I continued on foot. This eventually led to me purchasing a dual sport motorcycle \u2013 two in fact. Slowly my field recordings became less and less until I was riding off-road exclusively. This has led to many great adventures that I decided to share here. Hiking seemed a natural extension to the off-roading for me. Many hiking trails begin at the end of a motorcycle trail. So I would often follow them on foot, wondering where they would take me. I didn\u2019t want to forget these hiking trips, so I decided to write about them here. Hopefully they\u2019ll be interesting and helpful to you. Since my first peak, JiuBaoShan \u2013 \u4e45\u4fdd\u5c71 in April of 2018, I\u2019ve hiked to nearly 70 peaks in Taiwan and had a ton of adventures! Taiwan is such a great country to hike.
